Dear Third Grade Parents,
Please read my academic word document that is attached to this email so that you will know exactly what I will be teaching this week in religion, reading comprehension, phonics, spelling, grammar and math. This way, if your child is having difficulty in a particular area you will know what I am teaching and I have also given some examples so that you can help your child at home in addition to what we are doing in class.
I forwarded to you the picture and article that was in the Wakefield item on Friday evening with the children receiving their dictionaries from the Wakefield Rotary club.
On Friday, your child took home the "At A Glance calendar" for this week. This calendar is just for quick reference. For example, there will be an A.L.I.C.E. evacuation and reunification drill this Friday, September 27, 2019 and your child will have to be picked up on Friday at Father Gillis Hall at 2:05 PM by you or someone you have designated on your child's emergency card. Given today's world societal climate, these evacuation drills are mandatory, just like fire drills have been mandatory for years in case there is a fire. If you need any further information about the evacuation and reunification drill, please contact the school office or read about it on the school website.
Both John Casoli and Mia Garcia did fantastic teaching jobs at my desk this past week for their birthdays. 👏👐👏👐They are each officially nine years old!
This coming Friday, September 27, 2019 is also a "casual for a cause" day. The color is green and the cause is the Ronald McDonald house in Long Island New York where our school parent,Mrs. Pote, stayed while her son Thomas, who is now in our sixth grade, was hospitalized after an injury early in the summer vacation. Thomas's favorite color is green, and each student is asked to bring in $2.00 which will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House by our school.
Please keep in mind that every year grade 3 sponsors a pet food and supply drive in honor of St. Francis for all of St. Joseph School families and friends from preschool through grade 8, and for our entire parish family. We will have decorated boxes in the hallway across from the grade 3 door for our collection We will also have a box at the early childhood center, and a box in the foyer of the church. This week, the children will be cutting out pictures of animals to decorate the boxes. The official pet food/supply drive is from October 1 through Halloween October 31, 2019 and each year we hope to surpass the previous year in our amount that we are able to give to PAWS (Society for the Protection of Animals in the Wakefield area). At the end of October, grade 3 children turn our collection into a math lesson by sorting, counting and totaling the approximate amount for all of the food, toys and supplies. Please ask all of your relatives and friends to donate a few cans, boxes of dry food, treats, toys and supplies so that we can make this collection our best one yet.😀😺🐶🐕🐩🐈🐆🙏
I hope that all of you get to enjoy this beautiful weekend weather!
