First Grade Weekly News
Even though it was a four day week, we were extremely busy and finished all that I had planned. We even began our Bat unit! We finished story 4 in Reading Street and had our spelling and reading tests today. We continued with Chapter 2 in math by making connections with adding and subtracting 0 and 1. We are also beginning to learn how to count coins which can be found on the Math Minute. Our classroom store opened for business on Monday so the students had the opportunity to count up their earnings and buy an item in the store after they paid their rent.
Students were given math homework Wednesday evening marked “HOMEWORK”. It was a page from their math book with the words “Practice” at the top. This was supposed to be completed last night and returned today so we could correct it together. Perhaps some of you didn’t see it because not everyone returned it. Please note that I will be giving math homework on Wednesdays so be on the lookout! This needs to be done and returned the next day.
Picture Day is on Thursday, October 14th. Students may wear dress up clothes. I already have many of the envelopes that were passed in the last time.
Our field trip will be held on Friday, October 15th. Students should wear their gym attire. Anyone who has a desire to chaperone and has filled out a CORI, please confirm by sending me an email. So far I have the following on my list...Dan S., Renee D., Lisa C., Diane D., Deb, C., Stephanie R., Diana S., Tonia G., Nicole P., and Kourtney C. Some of you have already paid $12.00 which includes a pumpkin. If you haven’t, you may pay Connors Farm upon arrival. Each of you will be responsible for one other student besides your child. Masks are required on the bus, but not at the farm because we will be outside. Please pack lunch in a disposable bag, along with a drink for your child. The farm will provide an apple cider donut and cider for a snack. If your child has an allergy, please provide a snack. Chaperones - please meet at school by 9:15. You understand that you will be following the buses in your own vehicles.
I submitted the order for Scholastic Books last Saturday, but they informed me that there is a delay in the shipment. Hopefully, it will arrive before the end of the month.
There will be a couple more Casual For a Cause days in October. The first is on Friday, October 22nd for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Students may wear pink or white and donate $1.00. On Friday, October 29th, students may wear black, orange or Halloween prints, (no costumes) and it is FREE!
Enjoy the loooonnnnngggggweekend! See you next Tuesday! Stay well and safe!
