Well, Ms. Lorraine and I survived the week!  The week leading up to Halloween is always challenging.  We had a fun party this afternoon by listening to Halloween songs, eating lots of goodies, playing a few games of bingo, and making a craft.  We even used M&M’s for a fun math lesson.  Thank you for supplying the goods!  Also, a HUGE thank you to all the parents who helped to make last Friday evening’s Halloween schoolyard party a tremendous success!  If you haven’t yet seen the video, please make some time to view it.

This week we began our second book in the reading series.  The stories are becoming longer and students should be able to remember all the high frequency words they have had thus far.  Please continue to practice these words with your children if they are experiencing difficulty in reading them fluently.  These words cannot be sounded out. If you do not have a copy of the unit 2 book at home, please let me know and I’ll send one home.  Students should be reading the story of the week each night out loud to an adult. This will help increase your child’s reading fluency so he/she is not stopping after every word.

We began Chapter 3 in math.  Students should be memorizing the doubles’ facts. By doing this students will be able to add their facts quicker by recalling the double and adding to it.  Practicing about 10 minutes each night should be part of the homework routine.  They should also know the near doubles (doubles + 1 and doubles - 1).

This week Massimo was our superstar student. If he could star in a movie it would be about monsters.  He loves to build things from Kiwi Co.  He also showed us some very interesting pictures of his adventure in Italy.   Next week’s star student will be Jake.

We will not be going to Praise and Worship on Monday.  Instead we will be going to the 9:00 am Mass in honor of All Saints Day.  The First Friday liturgy is on Friday, November 5th.  Students should dress in Class A uniforms for both days.

I got an email from Scholastic Books to let me know that our book order will finally be shipped out today.

Sadly, today is Josie’s last day.  We wish her well at her new school.  She will be missed.

Have a happy Halloween and enjoy the weekend!
