• First Grade News

The excitement is ready to burst through the roof in First Grade.  The students arrive each day with anticipation as they look for our classroom elf, Chip.  Sometimes he brings a special treat.  What a fun way to start our day! We also read an Old Testament story throughout the week and add ornaments which represent that story to our Jesse Tree.

We have completed the last story in our reading series for Unit 2.  After reviewing the unit, the students will take the benchmark next week.  No homework baggies will go home until after Christmas break.  Please keep reviewing high frequency words with your child.  They should also reread the stories and poems in the Unit 2 book for homework next week.

We finished Chapter 4 in math and students were tested on it today.  Students should know all addition facts up through 20 by now.

We began to learn about the Christmas customs of other countries this week.  We’ve learned about the countries of Mexico, Italy, and France so far.

Lucas was our superstar this week.  He loves the Nutcracker.  His sidekick would be his mom.  We loved it when he brought in his elf to visit with Chip.  Next week, Parker will be our special student of the week.

Picture retakes will take place on December 16th.  Those students who are having their pictures taken may wear dress clothes that day.

Casual for a Cause is on December 17th.  Students may donate $1.00 to the Brain Trauma Foundation and wear orange or blue.

You are also invited to a Christmas Stroll on Friday evening, December 17th from 5:30 - 7:00 in our schoolyard.  This is an awesome was to get into the Christmas spirit.

Our Christmas concert and pageant will be video taped this year because it is going to be held during the school day with just the school students present.  It will take place on December 21st.  Students may wear festive dress up clothes that day.

Our class will board the “Polar Express” on December 22nd.  They should wear their pajamas to school that day.  We will have our c;lassroom party after lunch.  Mrs. Casoli will be in touch with some of you to provide the snacks and paper goods for our party.

Please sign and return the report card if you haven’t already done so.

    Have a great weekend!
