Mrs. Connerty - Grades 4-8 Spanish, Grades 6-8 Grammar & Vocabulary

Mrs. Connerty began teaching at St. Joseph School in 2001. Here she was able to realize her dream of being a Spanish teacher. Her favorite subject in high school was Spanish, and she continued her studies at Boston College and The University of Seville, Spain. In 2008, she took over as the Grade 8 Homeroom teacher and a portion of the Middle School English curriculum. 

In her Middle School English, students explore grammar elements, mechanics, usage, punctuation, capitalization, spelling, notetaking, short reading comprehension checks, and new vocabulary. In Spanish, students engage in conversational, reading, and writing activities based on themed topics. “Cultural Snapshots” are also infused to highlight different celebrations in the Hispanic world. 

In general, she wants students to feel like St. Joe’s is a welcoming, safe second home. As students move about their day, they should employ the St. Joe’s way and be faithful, personable, respectful, productive, and kind. One of her favorite Bible quotes is,

“Be the light.”  (Matthew 5:14) 

Outside the classroom, Marty enjoys summertime, exercising, and Boston sports.
