Helping our neighbors in need: the Wakefield Food Pantry
Did you know that one in eight people in Eastern Massachusetts currently struggle with hunger? This struggle is also very real in Wakefield. Hunger is invisible; we are not able to see when someone is hungry or to see how little food is in our neighbors’ cabinets; but it does exist in Wakefield. Last year the Wakefield Food Pantry served 821 families and gave out over 333,675 lbs of food. The pantry could only help those in need with the community’s support.
Every $1 dollar donated to the food pantry allows them to purchase $4 dollars in food from the Greater Boston Food Bank!
After February vacation, our wonderful art teacher, Mr. McGaw, will be making collection boxes for our students to bring home to their families. This Lenten season, we will be using the boxes to collect donations for the Wakefield Food Pantry. We will ask the children to return all donations collected before the Easter holiday. Thank you for your cooperation and generosity with this Lenten project. Every dollar truly makes a difference!
