We are thrilled to share that St. Joseph School now has an Augmented Reality Sandbox created by researchers at UC Davis. This device was constructed by Dr. Virginio Chiodini, Mrs. Chiodini's husband. It will be used by students in an integrated pK-12 STEM program in partnership with Malden Catholic. AR Sandboxes really make topography and geography lessons come to life! The sand is augmented in real-time with an elevation color map, topographic contour lines, and simulated water.
Our students will also be able to use the device to conduct original research through a collaborative arrangement with faculty in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at MIT. A big thank you goes to Dr. Chiodini and Mr. Shattuck for making this new learning experience possible!
