    Dear Grade 3 Parents,

Please download my Academic Word Document which is attached to this email and will explain in detail what I will be teaching this week in Religion, Language Arts(spelling; phonics; grammar; vocabulary and reading) and Math.๐Ÿ“š

As I was writing the dates for this newsletter, I could not believe that we're finishing this week on Friday, November 1, 2019. November already!๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I think that the reason the school year seems to go by so quickly is that we are always preparing a month in advance for something that is coming up in the future. This month everything was about Halloween, and the school Halloween party was a huge success.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ Kudos to Kourtney Casoli for all of her dedication and hard work in the organization prior to the party, her diligence, fairness and ability to remember every child's name, and to see every corner of the hall at the same time during the party, and finally to overseeing the cleanup of Father Gillis Hall after the party. Thank you also to all of you who helped her make this year's Halloween party such a great success. It truly does take a village! I am still in awe over the creativity and incredible makeup artistry that went into the phenomenal costumes that I saw at the party on Friday evening. Most importantly, all of the children seem to have had a great time which is the result of so much love and dedication from so many parents.I'm sure that you will be seeing many pictures in the parent blog and in the school newsletter from the Halloween party.

I don't think that I was home for more than one hour after the party when I received an email about the school craft fair set for November 22, 2019 and November 23, 2019!!!๐Ÿ˜‚ This is what I mean when I say that the year flies by because we always have to prepare for the next event.!!! The funny part to me is that I feel like Halloween is already over with, and the actual date isn't until this Thursday!๐Ÿ˜…๐ŸŽƒ Speaking of Halloween,I never give homework on Halloween evening so that the children can totally enjoy the afternoon and evening time with their families. That posed a little problem for me this year because Halloween falls on a Thursday and usually we have our reading/spelling tests on Friday. So, I am treating this week like a four day week and will be doing the tests for reading and spelling on Thursday and there will be no homework on Halloween night. This is all noted on the calendar that your child brought home Friday afternoon.

You can see from the weekly "At A Glance" calendar, that was given out on Friday, that this is going to be another busy week!! On Wednesday, the children will take their benchmark reading test that includes phonics, vocabulary and grammar from the first five stories. There is no studying needed for this test. They are given two short stories to read, which they made go back over to answer some questions. There is no time limit set and no reason to race through the test. They will also have a review spelling test on Tuesday which can be studied for since they have all of their regular spelling words in their reading notebooks. These words are all regular spelling words that they should have already learned in the first five lessons. They also have words that they have previously gotten wrong in the back section of the notebooks called "Tricky Words". Since the reading notebook goes home every day, they have been encouraged since September to review anything in their notebook especially spelling words or vocabulary words that gave them a problem on a reading or spelling test.

This week's reading story is a science nonfiction story that includes many facts about Emperor penguins and their habitats๐Ÿง. We are going to set up a little area by our classroom friend, Penguino, to include several different sized and different colored penguins. If your child has a penguin at home that they would like to share for this week, they are more than welcome to bring their penguin into class.

I hope you enjoy a happy, healthy week, and this time next week it will be down with the pumpkins and up with the turkeys!๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

    Blessings,

    Jane Ellis๐Ÿ˜บ
