    Dear Third Grade Parents,

Please download and read my Academic Word Document which will explain what your child will be learning this week in Religion; Reading; Spelling; Grammar; and Mathematics.

The first thing I want to do is to thank all of you and your children for helping me to celebrate my birthday😍 on Friday afternoon right after lunch when Mrs. Casoli and her daughter Nina brought in Italian ice treats for each student and for me. She also brought in a beautiful card from all of you and gifts of three of my favorite things!🎁🎁🎁 (A gift card to the paper store; a bottle of Martini and Rossi Asti Spumante; and Winfrey's penuche fudge)! She knows me very well!!(shopping; celebrating; and sweets😂💝😹

On Friday, your child brought home the "At A Glance Calendar" for this week. Please post this in a convenient spot so that you know ahead of time if your child will need anything special for the next morning. Even though Thanksgiving day is late in November this year, it seems that it has come so quickly, and next week will only have 2 1/2 days of school. The early childhood program through grade 3 will have our annual Thanksgiving get together at Father Gillis Hall on Wednesday morning November 27, 2019. I'm sure that Kourtney Casoli😇 has been right on top of this event letting you know if there is anything that is expected from grade 3. I have been told that the menu this year has gone back to the way it used to be many years ago and will be much simpler with a lot less leftover trash. (IMO, YEAH!)

Congratulations to our fellow student Kyle Chiang who received one of the top scores worldwide🌏 and earned a Grand Honors Award from the Johns Hopkins Center for talented youth.🏅 The center is dedicated to identifying and developing the talents of academically advanced pre- college students. Thousands of children from around the world try to qualify, and those who do are considered academically gifted. Not only did Kyle qualify, but he will be receiving his grand honors award medal at a ceremony on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Johns Hopkins University. I am sure that Mrs. Chiang will provide us with some great pictures.

The children brought home their first term report cards on Friday, November 15, 2019. If possible, please have your child return his or her report card to me on Tuesday or Wednesday of this coming week. As you already know, I will not be in school on Monday, November 18, 2019 because I have jury duty at Middlesex Superior Court. I hoped that when I called on Friday afternoon they would say that I did not have to appear, but the message this time said that all jurors for Monday, November 18 must appear, so off I go to do my civic duty.🤔 I would much rather have fun with grade 3!

I will leave the substitute teacher detailed plans for each subject and timeframe on Monday. I will also send you a separate email with what I have told her to give as a homework assignment for Monday evening, in case she does not format it on the board the same way I do, and read it to the children to copy into their assignment notebooks.

I also sent you the article and pictures about our donation to PAWS, and I will be sending you some more pictures from our visit with Chief Michael Sullivan who will be returning this Wednesday to finish reading his story, "Fire At My Parents' House."

It's NO WONDER that time flies in our classroom family!!! When you look at this week's green-paper calendar, you will see that we are always "up to something😂"

    Blessings,

    Jane Ellis
