My name is Ryan MaryAnne Hamelin, and I am the Middle School Social Studies teacher here at SJS. In addition, I teach Religion to grades 6 and 7 as well as leading "Technology Time" with Grades 6, 7 and 8.
I grew up in Providence, RI where my mother was an Executive Secretary and my Father owned an HVAC Company. I have one older sister who is an artist and lives in Brookline, MA and one older brother who works in the HVAC field and resides in DeBary, Florida.
Being the daughter of a small business owner, I grew up with the understanding that service means much more than simply doing a job for payment. Throughout his life, my father earned most of his business through referrals. It was often that I would see my father visit an elderly customer to help them with their heating or cooling system on one of his days off...often times offering help free of charge. If someone needed help, and my father could provide some assistance, he would.
Both of my parents served the community, my mother volunteered at my school, at the hospital, as well as at the Church every week, and they taught me the value of giving your time to others. My favorite things about myself are my sense of humor and my ability to be a good friend. I feel that I inherited both of these traits from my parents.
In my life, God has blessed me with a hardworking, caring and faith filled husband Jason, as well as three wonderful boys: Jakob, Gerald and Edward. My family is the center of my life, and the time I do not spend working at Saint Joseph School is occupied with caring for them. In addition to my teaching job, I enjoy volunteering as a Eucharistic Minister at Saint Joseph Parish, as well as visiting my home bound neighbors for faith sharing and fellowship. My hobbies include walking the neighborhood, sharing jokes and laughter with friends and reading. My happy place is Old Orchard Beach, Maine.
Graduate of the Lincoln School for Girls in Providence, RI; BA in History from Rhode Island College; M.Ed. in Middle School Humanities from Salem State University
Favorite Part of Being a Teacher at SJS:
My US History students will surely attest to the fact that I "geek out" over history. I love discussing and sharing my knowledge of our US History with my students. It is fun for me to share stories with them and anecdotes about the founding of our nation. In addition, I enjoy challenging my students to delve deeper into the subject matter, and utilize technology to help them in their educational endeavors.
I also love the support and friendship of the staff and parents here at St. Joseph school. There are so many times that they have helped me to learn new things and to grow as an educator, I would be at a loss without them. Thanks Friends!
