    Curriculum Highlights

    • World Geography: Grade 6 
    • Come along on a journey with me as we take a fun-filled adventure tour of all seven continents of the world.
    • We will explore the push/pull factors behind immigration and talk about current events affecting our environment today.
    • We will talk about current events and think about the different lives of people living throughout our global world.
    • Ancient Civilizations: Grade 7
    • Ancient Civilizations is a survey course that covers the major civilizations from prehistoric communities through the Medieval period (roughly 2 million B.C. to the 1700s A.D.). 
    • We will also use Social Studies class to discuss and analyze current events and topics which hold meaning for today's students.
    • U.S. History I: Grade 8
    •  Early U.S. History, beginning with European exploration and settlement, up through the Civil War.
    • Particular emphasis is put on the American Revolution, the writing of the Constitution, and the Civil War.
    • We will spend a lot of time throughout the year studying our federal, state, and local governments as well during our civics portion of Social Studies Class.
    • We will also take field trips which correspond with topics and/or events we are studying.
    • Current events will, of course, also be discussed since Social Studies includes discussing the world we live in today and its ever-evolving events.
    • Religion 7: 
    • The Life of Jesus is the focus
    • True to our mission statement, Saint Joseph School is a faith-filled environment. The Grade 7 religion curriculum focuses on the life of Jesus and his founding of the Church.
    • We use the Ignatius Press, Faith, and Life Series throughout grades 5-8 so that all topics discussed to form a continuity for our students. Students attend weekly Monday morning worship times in the Church, as well as First Friday Masses each month. Holy days are celebrated, and we pray daily at the start and end of the day as well as before meals.
    • Religion 6:   
    • The Ten Commandments are the focus
    • True to our mission statement, Saint Joseph School is a faith-filled environment. The Grade 6 religion curriculum focuses on the Ten Commandments and learning about The Holy Mass. We use the Ignatius Press, Faith, and Life Series throughout grades 5-8 so that all topics discussed to form a continuity for our students. Students attend weekly Monday morning worship times in the Church, as well as First Friday Masses each month. Holy days are celebrated, and we pray daily at the start and end of the day as well as before meals. 
    • Religion 8:
    • The History of the Church and the archdiocesan written "Created for Love" is the focus
    • Created for Love helps students navigate the world of modern day relationships with a focus on time-honored value of respect 
    • The history of the church looks at the church as a living entity from the time of the Apostolic succession through today
