    9/20/24

We welcome the season of autumn this weekend.  This means that we will be celebrating Johnny Appleseed’s birthday next week.  We will learn about his life as well as have some fun with apples.  I may even be able to make some crockpot applesauce before the end of the week.

We finished the second story in our reading book and were tested on it today.  I read the questions and choices to the students.  They decided on the best answer.  Students should practice reading and spelling the high frequency words each night.  They are doing well with sounding out the phonemes as well as graphing the sounds with the letters.  Try to make time to read with your child before bedtime even though you are exhausted.  It will definitely pay off!

Homework seems to be going well.  When turning in homework baggies, you do not need to send back the decodable readers. Keep them home for practice.

In math we continued to work on Chapter 1 and should be finished next week. Students should have a good grasp of adding or subtracting two groups as well as understanding the part-part-whole concept.  Please make sure math homework is returned the very next day so we can correct it together,

Our first superstar student of the year was Niall.  His favorite color is orange and his superhero is Jesus.  If he could help the world be a better place he would hug and help everyone.  We enjoyed seeing all his special show and tell items this week, especially his dinosaur.  Next week, Chloe will be our superstar student.

We practiced using the mouse this week in preparation for the MAPS testing which students will take on Oct. 1 and 3rd.

Casual for a Cause is next Friday, Sept. 27th.  Students may wear green, teal or blue casual clothes and donate $1.00 to support the Dion Foundation.

Don’t forget to order books from Scholastic Books if you are interested.  The forms were sent home in the green folder this week.  This needs to be done online.  My access code NDQW3.  I will be putting in the order next weekend.

If you have not yet sent back the forms that were in the Back to School Night folder, please do so.  I also sent everyone a Remind app invitation.  Please respond to this request.  This will help to keep you informed about classroom activities.

Kindergarten, Grades 1 and 2 will be going on a field trip to Brooksby Farm on Tuesday, Oct. 8th.  Permission slips will be sent home on Monday.  We are just waiting on confirmation for the buses.

    Have a great weekend!
