    3/21/25

We had a full week of school and got lots done.

The fourth story, HI! Fly Guy, has been completed and students were assessed today.  We focused on the sound of long i in igh, i, y, and ie words.  We also learned how to find context clues to help us with unknown vocabulary words.

We are still working on Chapter 9 in math and learning how to regroup the ones into tens.  This is a hard concept, but we’re working through it and practicing regrouping in a simpler way than how it is presented in our book.  Students NEED to know their addition facts so the regrouping is done accurately.

C.J. was our superstar student this week.  She would like to keep the oceans clean to make the world a better place to live in.  Her catch phrase is, “NO fair!” and her superhero is Mrs. D.  We loved seeing her special treasures, especially her vacation book about her Disney cruise.  Next week, Abby will be our superhero superstar.

Today, a visiting author, Kristen Perrotti, read her book, Shark and His Visitors, to us.  This book is about feelings.  Many of the students mentioned the movie, Inside Out when discussing how they feel sometimes. You may purchase this book on Amazon.

Kindergarten, Grade 1, and Grade 2 have been meeting together to discuss the Stations of the Cross.  I will be taking First Grade to the church on April 4th and 11th to see the Middle School perform the Living Stations in preparation for Good Friday.

Please find your child’s Square One Art form in the green folder today.

The SJS Drama Club is working very hard practicing for their performances of Mary Poppins which will be held on March 29th and 30th.  I hope you will be able to see one of these performances which include our very own first graders: Teresa, Vittoria, Maeve, Chiara, Chloe, John, Stephen, and Paolo.  It will be a very long week for all of us, especially on Wednesday, the evening of dress rehearsal.  These students will not have homework that evening.

    Enjoy the weekend!
