    12/13/24

Happy Friday the 13th!!! Only one more week until Christmas break!  What a whirlwind!  We’ve done so many activities in such a short amount of time and we’re still going strong.

We are working on our Christmas Around the World booklet and learned about France, Germany and Italy this week.  We had a visit from Renzo Canetta, a friend of Teresa’s family, who showed us slides of a traditional Italian Nativity scene, presepe.  We also listened to a couple of Italian Christmas carols.   It’s fun to learn about how other countries celebrate the Christmas season.

We are continuing to read from the Old Testament and learn how Jesus became a descendant of King David.  Did you know that it took 42 generations before Jesus was born?  We are blessed to be part of this family, too!

The students took the Unit 2 benchmark test in our reading program throughout the week.  Instead of doing the entire test in one sitting, I thought it best to complete it in sections.  I was pleased with the results.  We will begin Unit 3 after Christmas break.

Math was a challenge this week.  Using ten frames for subtraction by making a ten first, is very confusing for the students.  We’re muddling through it, though

Noah was our superstar of the week.  He loves animals and wants to use his superpowers to make sure all are well cared for.  His superhero is Tom Brady and his baby sister, Mary-Kate, is his sidekick.  We loved seeing all his show and tell items, especially the turtle shell.  Next week, Adam will be our star student.

Nadia’s aunt and uncle surprised us as our Mystery Readers today.  Natalie, a professional country singer from Nashville,  brought along her guitar and we sang some Christmas songs with her after Uncle Steve read a Christmas story.  We had so much fun

We have been busy practicing for the Nativity Pageant almost every afternoon.  Hopefully, your children have their robes or tunics ready to wear on Friday evening.  Please have them report to the hall by 6:00.  They should leave their coats and jackets with you.  At the end of the pageant, please pick up your children as they wait in the church pews located by the choir. The pageant will begin at approximately 6:30.

Next Friday we will enjoy our Polar Express party in the morning just in case we need to practice for the pageant in the afternoon.  Students should wear their pj’s to school. If we don’t have to practice, we will have a relaxing afternoon and make a Christmas craft while listening to some Christmas music.  I already have the craft.

Ms. Loraine and I wish you and your family a very blessed Christmas and happy New Year!
