First Grade News
April 4, 2025
It feels great to be back into a routine. I am so proud of the drama students! I hope they had fun and enjoyed performing on stage.
This week the students took a benchmark test for Unit 4 in our reading series and also began Unit 5 with a Frog and Toad story about friendship. We learned how to categorize items and use commas to join two sentences by using conjunctions.
In math students are learning how to measure objects using cubes and paper clips and comparing them to inches on their rulers. We are also working on regrouping, but I can’t stress enough the importance of knowing + and - math facts.
This week John was our student of the week. If he could make the world a better place he would like everyone to be kind to one another. His mom is his superhero. He was very proud to show off his hockey sweatshirt, but I especially loved his books about Bobby Orr! This concludes our Student of the Week.
The third marking term ended today. Report cards will be given out next Friday.
First Grade will attend the book fair on Tuesday at 10:30.
There is a Casual for a Cause day next Friday, April 11th. Students may wear Red Sox attire and donate $1.00 or $2.00 if they want to also wear a Red Sox hat. Proceeds will be donated to the Jimmy Fund.
The Pancake Breakfast, sponsored by the 8th grade, is this Sunday from 8:00 - 11:00 in Father Gillis Hall. The cost is $10.00 per person or $20.00 for a family of 4 or more.
Have a great weekend!
