On Sunday we begin our Catholic Schools Week celebration. I am thankful to you for the sacrifices you make so your child can attend this great school. I love coming to work each day. Your children are very special and it is a privilege to be their teacher.
You will find on the back of this notice, a list of all the Catholic School Week activities. Each day students should wear the specified color, except for Friday, when we attend the 9:00 liturgy. On that day students should be dressed in Class A uniforms. This year, the Battle of the Bucks will be held to raise funds for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
We are extending the 3rd story in our reading series into next week because this was a shortened week and next week will be disrupted by many different activities due to Catholic Schools Week. Please practice the high frequency words as well as their spelling. We are focusing on the hard and soft sounds of c and g. Have your child reread the decodable stories that came home. Hopefully, you are hearing your child read more fluently and not stopping to sound out words that were already introduced. The more a child reads out loud, the more fluent they become.
In math, the students completed Chapter 6 and were tested on it. Test A was very stressful for some, even though they were guided every step of the way. So I decided to give Test B to everyone and let them refer to Test A to help them. A few are still struggling with identifying which number is in the tens and which is in the ones. We also started to play, “I have, who has” which identifies the ones and tens in numbers while trying to beat the clock.
Paolo delighted us as our star student throughout the week with some of his favorite show and tell items. We were especially impressed with his magic bank. I was freaked out by the spider that popped out while I was looking for the penny. If he could make the world a better place it would be for everyone to be kind to one another. His superhero is his mom because she takes good care of him. Next week, Maeve will be our superstar student.
Next Tuesday is Student Appreciation Day. This is a NO HOMEWORK day for the students. They may also bring in a favorite board game to play.
We are continuing to learn about penguins. There are seventeen different kinds of penguins. The students had fun making their favorite penguin and writing about it. They are on display outside our classroom.
I hope to see you at the 9:00 liturgy on Sunday as we begin Catholic Schools Week. There is a collation and slideshow in the hall after Mass.
Next Friday is a half day. Dismissal is at 11:20.
Have a great weekend.
