First Grade News
March 28, 2025
What a long week some of us had! The first grade drama students are real heroes. We have had some pretty long practices, but they had the stamina and have made it to the big day! I hope each one enjoys every minute of their performance. As they say in the business, “Break a leg!”
Students were tested on reading comprehension for this week’s story, Koko and Penny. We learned how Penny trained a gorilla, Koko, how to use sign language to express herself. Their oral reading with expression is such a joy to listen to! Thank you for helping your child to read to you at home. It is really paying off. Some students are having difficulty spelling their heart words. Please practice with them throughout the week.
This week the students wrote acrostic poems about spring using adjectives. They are decorating our bulletin board outside the classroom. I have taken some pictures, so take a look at my website.
Students were assessed on Chapter 9 which focused on regrouping tens when adding. Some are still not understanding the concept, so I’ll be reviewing this as we move into the next chapter. Some are having difficulty because they do not know their addition facts.
Grades K - 2 have learned about the Stations of the Cross. The first grade will attend the Stations of the Cross with Grades 4-8 for the last two weeks before Good Friday.
Abby was our superstar student this week. We were impressed with her Celtics chain as well as all her stuffies. Her superhero is her mom and she would like to keep the oceans clean so the world becomes a better place. Next week, John will be our last, but not least, superstar student.
Thank you to Abby’s Vovo for being our Mystery Reader this week! We love carrots, too!
Next Thursday, we will be participating in an in school field trip right in our science classroom. Please find information on the back of this newsletter.
First Friday Mass is next week. Students should wear their Class A uniforms.
On Sunday, April 6th, the 8th graders are having a pancake breakfast after the 7:30 and 9:00 Masses. It’s $10 per person or $20 for a family of 4 or more.
Have a great weekend! Hope to see you at our play!
