This week flew by!  We had fabulous weather for our field trip.  The students enjoyed themselves and wrote about their experience.  Thank you to our chaperones and other parents who joined us for the fun day.

Because this week was a shorter week due to the field trip, Alice Drill, and Teacher Professional Day, we veered a bit from our usual routine in Language Arts and Reading.  The students took the assessments on Monday and did pretty well in both areas.  My one suggestion is to practice reading and spelling the high frequency words because some cannot be sounded out, but I do expect them to be spelled correctly when using them in sentences.

In math, we learned to use the number line to add and subtract.  We also made flashcards for the doubles up to 6+6.  Students will practice these with one another which will help commit them to memory.  We will make the rest up to 12+12 next week.  Students are also expected to be able to count by 10’s and 5’s to 100.  I am beginning to teach the students place value, too.  You may see these kinds of activities on the back of the math minute on occasion.

This week, Aris was our superstar student.  His favorite color is green and his favorite superhero is the Hulk.  If he could, he would stop all the fighting in the world so it will become a better place.  We loved all his special treasures, especially his “player of the game”, chain.  He also had some great pictures of his family, including a special friend, Gronk, who joined them in Greece for their family vacation.  Katherine will be our superstar student next week.

Individual pictures will be taken next Friday.  Dress up clothes may be worn.  Forms will be sent home on Monday.

Don’t forget to get your costumes ready for our annual Halloween party on Friday evening, Oct. 25th in our school yard.  Look on the blog for more information.

We will have our Halloween classroom party on Thursday, Oct. 31st.  Mrs. Licata and Mrs Arsenault will contact some of you for help in sending in goodies for our party.  It is also a free casual day for the students.  They should wear black/orange or Halloween t-shirts.  No costumes!

    Enjoy the weekend!
