Can you believe we celebrated the 50th day of school a few days ago? Time flies when you’re having fun! I read an article recently about a Kindergarten teacher that was exhausted at the end of each day. She tried to figure out why she didn’t want to talk to anyone when she got home. So, she used a clicker to count how many times she had to answer her students when they asked a question or called out her name. Guess how many clicks in just one day. 627!!! This explains a lot!
We are working on Chapter 4 in math, reinforcing doubles facts while learning strategies for the doubles +1 and how to make a 10 when adding three numbers. I am also teaching the students strategies when adding a 9 or a 10 to a number. They have been quizzed on the doubles a few times. I have given them 2 minutes to answer all the equations, but, going forward, I would like them to be able to answer all of them in a minute or less.
We have finished the fourth story in our reading series. We continued to focus on the sh, th, and ng blends along with common and proper nouns and open/closed syllables. No homework baggy will be sent home next week due to the shortened week. Enjoy the HW free week!
Next week we will do some fun Thanksgiving activities in place of our regular workload. I can smell the crockpot pumpkin bread already! The students will help mix all the ingredients so they will learn a little bit about measuring and fractions and cracking eggs.
Vittoria was our star student of the week. Her superhero is God and she would like everyone to be nice to one another so the world will be a better place. Her favorite color is pink and we loved dancing to her favorite song, “9 to 5”. Her stuffed animals were so cute and cuddly.
We enjoyed GURI shopping with our buddies today and the gifts are safely tucked away until we wrap them for Christmas. We will have a wrapping party with our buddies in a couple of weeks.
Next Wednesday morning, K - 3 will celebrate Thanksgiving by enjoying a breakfast of pancakes, sausages, cornbread and water. I know it’s not your traditional Thanksgiving feast, but after all, it is breakfast time. Each class will recite a poem, sing a song or maybe do both! If you’d like to help set up, go to the hall after drop off.
Please find your conference time in the green folder today. If the time doesn’t work for you, please let me know and we’ll make other arrangements.
Remember it is a half day next Wednesday. Dismissal is at 11:20.
May you and your family enjoy a blessed and Happy Thanksgiving.
