Happy November! I can’t believe how quickly the days are passing by. Halloween is over, and just like that, the preparations begin for Thanksgiving and Christmas! Thank you, Renee, for providing the fun craft for our party. The Halloween snow globes looked amazing! I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many goodie bags being passed out, too. Everyone was so generous. It was a fun party.
This week we began Unit 2 in our reading series. We focused on the sound of short e with the letter /e/ and /ea/. I am happy with our new program and learning more and more how much it has to offer. The students learned how to use commas to separate nouns in a series this week. This skill was not introduced until much later in the year with the old series.
In math we learned how to balance equations on both sides of the equal sign using addition and subtraction and how to make fact families. The students seem to understand the concept. Keep practicing math facts.
Teresa, our Star of the Week, shared many of her favorite things with us. We were intrigued with her coat rack peg and the process of how it was shaped using a block of wood. We also saw a picture of her patron saint, Teresa of Calcutta. Her favorite color is blue and if she could make the world a better place, she would take care of all babies. St. Teresa of Calcutta is her superhero. Next week, Mila will be our superstar student.
Thank you to our Mystery Reader this week. Mrs. Golini, along with Taylor, John’s sister, surprised him on his birthday and read a Halloween story. The students enjoyed it very much.
Can you believe that the first marking term will close on next Friday, Nov. 8th?
There is no school on Monday, as we attend the funeral of our beloved Principal, Dr. Sullivan. All I can say is that it has been quite a year for us, losing two of our special people. I know Mrs. D. and Dr. Sullivan are watching over us now.
During the month of November we will be remembering and praying for those who have died. I already have a picture of Mrs. D. on our prayer board, but if you would like to send in a picture of a loved one who has passed away, you can send it in with your child and I will display it.
Our annual Craft Fair is quickly approaching. It will be held on Friday, Nov. 15th and Saturday, Nov. 16th. Please return the raffle tickets for the 50-50 drawing.
Try to have a good weekend. We do gain an hour of sleep!
