    4/11/25

This week seemed to fly by.  The students are working very hard as we head into Holy Week.

This week we focused on the bossy “r” in er, ir, ur, and or.  It’s hard to know how to spell these words because the sound of each of these is the same.  So, practice spelling these kinds of words going forward.  It will pay off!

We finished Chapter 10 and students were assessed.  Most understand how to measure with a ruler.

This week we started a writing project where every student will receive a book about what makes them “special”, written by his/her classmates.  This will be a nice keepsake for them.

We also learned about a very famous Italian artist, Duccio di Buoninsegna, who painted La Maestá, which consists of wooden panels beginning with Palm Sunday and leading up to the Crucifixion.  Laura Chiodini explained this painting to the first and fourth graders and then we focused on the Palm Sunday panel and tried to envision it with our eyes closed.  The students wrote about it as well as answered some questions.  Now it is their turn to explain it to you, and we are asking you to take a few minutes to draw what you think the scene may look like. We will further discuss this next week and take a look at your drawings.

Report cards were sent home today.  Please sign and return the report card and attach 2 postage stamps on the envelope.  Also, please address the envelope to where you want the card mailed at the end of the year.

When we return from break, I will be giving each student a poem to memorize for our Poets’ Tea which we will have at the end of May.  I will share more information about this fun, first grade activity after vacation.

We will also be hosting the First Friday Mass on May 2nd.  Lots of practice will be going into preparing for this special event.  If your child receives a reading next week, please practice this over break.

Students will have the yearly eye/hearing tests on Monday.  If you do not want your child to participate in this, please let me know.

Have a great weekend.  I hear it’s going to be a rainy one again.
