February flew by!  It was a very busy month.  We celebrated our 100th day of school, along with the birthdays of two of our Presidents.  We survived an extremely cold vacation week and the flu bug.  Spring is in the near distance!

We will celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday (3/2) on Monday since it is “Read Across America” Day.  Students will be served my famous green eggs and ham, as well as some other breakfast treats, for their morning snack.  We will also read some books by this famous author.

This week, students took the benchmark test for Unit 3 in our reading series.  It was sent home in the green folder on Wednesday.  I administered it in three parts and the final grade was circled on the first page.  Most did well and are on their way to becoming more fluent readers who do not have to spend much time focusing on sounding out words.  Make sure your child is reading out loud each night, but also reading the correct words, not substituting words that begin with the same letter.

In math, we are working on adding and subtracting by tens.  Most are understanding this concept.  Some examples for practicing … 46 + 20, 85 + 10, 78-20.  Students should be able to do this using mental math.

Thank you to our Mystery Readers who have surprised us over the last few weeks…Mrs. Santiago, Mrs. Kennett, and Mrs. Arsenault.  We are looking forward to quite a few readers during the month of March.

Chiara was our superstar student this week.  We loved her blinged out poster!  If she could make the world a better place, she would want everyone to be kind and humble.  We enjoyed all her treasures for show and tell, especially her motorized Barbie car!  Next week, Stella will be our student of the week.

We will be attending the 9:00 liturgy on Wednesday as our Lenten season begins where we will receive ashes.  Students should still wear gym clothes.  We will also attend Mass on Friday for the First Friday of the month.  Looking ahead, we do have a Mass scheduled at 6:45 am to honor Mrs. D.’s birthday, which is on March 11th.  It is early, I know, but if your child wants to attend, I will bring them back to school and they can hang out with me.

    Enjoy the weekend!
