What a week! I know I do NOT like these frigid temps, especially when it is windy! I will not be visiting any penguins anytime soon. At least there isn’t too much snow to deal with, yet.
In reading, we completed story #2 in our reading text and learned about growing plants. I wish this story were closer to spring when we plant seeds. The students were excited to receive their journals and some read their books and turned them in the very next day. They will go home again on Monday in the homework baggies, but may be brought in any day throughout the week after they write and draw a picture of what they read.
This week’s math lessons seemed a bit easier to understand once the strategy for tens and ones was figured out. Most students have a good understanding about place value and how it works with the tens and ones. Transferring the ones to the tens was a bit tricky, though. We should finish Chapter 6 next week.
We are continuing to learn about penguins. Did you know they are birds that don’t fly and they have feathers? Their flippers are like wings because they help them swim instead of fly.
This week we also learned about the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The students wrote acrostic poems using the word ‘PEACE’. They also created a peace garden of flowers. These can be seen outside our classroom.
Thomas was our superstar student of the week. He loves Batman, who is his superhero. If he could
change one thing in the world, it would be for everyone to love each other! We loved seeing all his superhero toys and transformers. Next week, Paolo will be our superstar.
Next Friday is a Casual For a Cause Day for Dana Farber Cancer Center. Students may wear a color of their choice for the type of cancer that may have affected your family, such as pink for breast cancer, Look on the school newsletter for the causes and colors.
Please check the St. Joseph School weekly newsletter for the schedule of activities during Catholic Schools Week, which will begin on Sunday, Jan. 26th at the 9:00 liturgy. The only day students will wear their Class A uniform will be when we attend Mass on Sunday and the following Friday. The rest of the week, students will wear different kinds of clothing. Our class color is purple.
Please make sure your email is added to Renweb. I noticed some are missing, so important classroom information will be missed. You can also sign up for the Remind app which I use.
Have a great long weekend as we remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
